Enters his 18th year as Head Coach at Worcester State College. He coached two years as an assistant coach at Worcester State before being named Head Coach in 1992. He has led the Lancers to three ECAC Tournament appearances.

In 2000 he was named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. John is a graduate of St. John's High School. He played four years at Worcester State and was a member of two ECAC Championship teams in 1973-74 and 1976-77. He was named to the Worcester State College Hall of Fame as a member of the 1977 ECAC Championship team in October of 2000. He was also inducted again as a member of the 1973-74 Ice Hockey Team

John and his wife Debbie live in Worcester.

Marv Degon
Assistant Coach

Coach Degon enters his fifth season as an assistant coach after previously being the head coach of the team from 1992-94. Since 1995 Degon has also been both an NIHOA and CMHOA ice hockey official.

As a standout player for Worcester State College, Degon was named the Lancers only All-American in the 1974-75 season by the ECAC and the NAIA. Degon was also a member of the 1974 ECAC Division III Championship team and a captain on the 1974-75 squad. Degon is currently the school record holder in goals and points while he is second in assists. In 1972, Degon led the NCAA in scoring and he also led the ECAC in scoring in 1973 and 1975. In addition, Degon was named to the ECAC Player of the Week 17 times from 1972-75. Degon also has the distinction of holding the NCAA Division III career record for hat tricks from 1971-75.

A 1996 member of the St. Peter's High School Hall of Fame, Degon graduated as an outstanding baseball and hockey player for the Guardians in 1971. As a hockey player, Degon was named a Central Mass All-Star in 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71. In his junior and senior seasons Degon was the team captain and in 1970-71 he led Central Mass in scoring. As a baseball player he was selected as an All-Catholic League team representative in 1968-69, 1969-70 and 1970-71 as well as to the All-Worcester City team in 1969-70 and 1970-71. In the 1970-71 season Degon was also honored as the District III Most Valuable Player.

Degon was tabbed the 1973 recipient for the Sports Illustrated Award for Merit and he also received the 1975 Mathew Hehir Memorial Award. Degon is a member of the Worcester State Athletics Lancer Hall of Fame after the 1973-74 Ice Hockey team was enshrined in the class of 2005.

John Coughlin, Jr
Assistant Coach

Coach Coughlin comes back to Worcester State for his second year of coaching after helping guide the 1974 and 1977 ice hockey teams to ECAC Division III Championships. A 1999 member of the Worcester State College Athletics Lancer Hall of Fame, Coughlin coached the team from 1972-1977 as an assistant to his father, John Coughlin Sr and recruited Worcester State's only ice hockey All-American as well as six ECAC All-Stars.

Coughlin's other coaching experiences have included a stint as Wachusett's assistant from 1970-1977 as well as serving as an assistant at Becker College during the 2006-07 season and the head coach for the Holy Cross Ice Hockey club team in 2007. Coughlin also was an ice hockey official for ECAC Division II and III games from 1970-88 as a member of the NIHOA Chapter of Central Mass.

A 1970 graduate of American International College, Coughlin helped the Yellow Jackets win the ECAC Division II Championship in 1969.

The artificial turf on the campus of Worcester State was dedicated to John Coughlin, Sr, Coughlin's father, in 1986.
