Coach Flaherty began as the head coach for the Worcester State Lancer Cheerleaders in the fall of 2002. She has over 15 years of coaching experience and has coached on the high school, collegiate, and professional level. Flaherty attended the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth from 1990 – 1994 where she earned a Bachelors Degree in psychology. She earned a Masters degree in the field of education from Worcester State College in 2003.

Flaherty cheered for the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs from 1990 – 1994 and throughout her college career worked as a cheerleading instructor for the New England Cheerleaders Association, Inc. In 1994 she became a camp director for the company and worked to train incoming staff, a position which she still holds today. In 2001 Flaherty was promoted to vice president of the New England Cheerleaders Association where she is responsible for the direction of both resident and private camps.

From 1997 - 2001 Flaherty was the head coach for the Foxboro High School Warriors. Under her direction, the team earned a regional championship and qualified for two state championship titles.

In 2008 Coach Flaherty brought the Worcester State Cheerleaders to NCA College Nationals for the first time in the schools’ history. Here she gained national recognition for the WSC program and revealed her cheerleading team to be “up and coming” competitors for the future. Flaherty promotes a competitive spirit in her athletes and strives to create an atmosphere where teamwork and respect is a top priority.

David Cairns
Assistant Coach

Coach Cairns began working with the Worcester State College Cheerleaders in the Winter of 2007. He has over eight years of coaching experience and has coached at the high school, all-star, collegiate and professional level. Cairns is a 2004 graduate of Worcester State where he earned his BS in History.

Coach Cairns cheered for Worcester State College from 2000-2001 and throughout his college career worked as a cheerleading instructor for the New England Cheerleaders Association, Inc. In 2004, he became the Director of Thames Valley All-Stars where he worked to train beginners through advanced cheerleaders. He currently works for a local Insurance company in Worcester.

Coach Cairns focuses on the gymnastics element of performance and strives to promote the competitive spirit of cheerleading.



Gina Fegreus
Volunteer Assistant Coach

Coach Fegreus has 15 collective years of coaching experience and is a member of the United Cheer & Dance Foundation (UCDF).  Fegreus started the cheerleading program at Assumption College in Worcester, MA and coached the team for 12 years bringing them to NCA College Nationals eight years in a row.  Coach Fegreus brought her teams into the competitive arena helping them to achieve national recognition and ranking. Fegreus went on to coach at the all star level and coached the All-Girl Open Team at 5-Star Academy in North Oxford, MA. 

She spent the last two years as the head coach at Westborough High School and has recently returned to the college arena as a volunteer consultant for WSC.
